THE TEA GARDEN’S COMMITMENT TO SUSTAINABLE TOURISM

Over the past few years we have taken steps to minimize our impact on the environment, culminating in 2013 the replacement of our two oil boilers with a ground source heat pump.

This involved in drilling a 200M deep hole under one of the outside tables and linking it to the refrigeration equipment at the rear of the building.

This new system now provides all the hot water and heating for the entire building including the commercial kitchens at a fraction of the total carbon footprint.

We have also changed all of the light bulbs to low energy with approx.40%L.E.D.bulbs.

Toilet and bathroom area lights are controlled by motion detector switches to minimise lights being left on. Washroom taps have electronic controls to minimise water use and wastage. Showers are fitted with eco heads for the same reason. Insulation throughout the property has, where possible, been upgraded to the latest standards.

All our glass waste is recycled along with paper, plastic drink bottles, cans and cardboard.

We will continue to commit to sustainable tourism.
We very much appreciate living and working in an area such outstanding beauty and are only too pleased to be able to help others who wish to enjoy the surrounding area and islands of the west coast of scotland.

Really enjoyed our stop here. The ploughmans and cheese selection were lovely. I had the cheeses with a side of chips, delicious. It does get really busy when a train or ferry arrives but it all adds to the atmosphere of a well run restaurant. If the weather is good there is comfortable seating outside.
